The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed as false and misleading a publication alleging that it has increased its registration fees.
In a statement issued by the Public Communication Advisor (PCA), Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board described the claim as “entirely unfounded,” stressing that its approved fees have remained unchanged since 2019.
For clarity, JAMB stated that the current registration fees are as follows: Direct Entry (DE): ₦5,700; UTME Only (without Mock): ₦7,200; UTME with Mock: ₦8,700.
The Board provided a breakdown of the charges: Application Fee – ₦3,500; Reading Text – ₦1,000; CBT Centre Registration Service Charge – ₦700; CBT Centre UTME Service Charge – ₦1,500; Bank Charges – ₦500; and CBT Mock-UTME Centre Charge – ₦1,500.
JAMB recalled that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction in the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, effective from the 2019 registration exercise.
Since the implementation of that government-approved reduction, the Board noted that it has maintained the same fee structure despite rising operational costs.
The Board urged prospective candidates, parents and guardians to disregard the publication and rely solely on official information released through its verified platforms and advertisements.
It also advised candidates to carefully study its official registration advertisement to avoid being misled or exploited by unscrupulous individuals or centres.
Furthermore, JAMB appealed to any candidate who may have paid more than the officially approved fees to promptly report such centres with credible evidence.
According to the Board, such reports would enable it to investigate and take swift disciplinary action against any centre found guilty of overcharging or engaging in sharp practices.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of candidates’ interests at all times.
