The Ministry of Defence is set to deepen its collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to enhance space-based support for national security operations.

Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), announced this during a meeting with NASRDA officials led by Director General Dr. Matthew O. Adepoju.

Musa emphasized that satellite-enabled surveillance, radar imaging, and signal analytics can significantly improve situational awareness and support troops on the frontline against terrorism, banditry, and trans-border crimes.

The Minister stressed the need for a closer synergy between NASRDA and the Defence Space Administration (DSA) to integrate space assets into military operations. NASRDA’s DG highlighted Nigeria’s existing space capabilities and international collaborations, disclosing plans to procure additional satellites, including radar systems, to strengthen national security.

Both parties agreed to harmonize efforts and develop a coordinated deployment framework to maximize efforts towards achieving effective national security operations. A joint committee will be established to fast-track implementation.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to leverage space-based innovations to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
