The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), of Nigeria has joined the African Union and the entire African continent in celebrating Africa Day 2025. This year’s theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” resonates with Nigeria’s commitment to continental unity, sustainable development, and collective prosperity.

In a press release made available to Newsmen issued and signed by the MFA Spokesperson, Mr Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, The Ministry noted that the African Union has continued to provide a unique platform that champions the continent’s aspirations in line with the vision of our founding fathers. The theme for the year, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations” actually resonates deeply with Nigeria’s commitment to fostering continental unity, sustainable development, and collective prosperity.

“Undoubtedly, Africa Day serves as a powerful reminder of our shared heritage, struggles, and aspirations for a peaceful, integrated, and economically vibrant Africa. Therefore, under the amiable and dynamic leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria reaffirms its dedication to the principles of the AU’s Agenda 2063, particularly in advancing democracy, good governance, youth empowerment, and regional security.

“As a key advocate for African solidarity, Nigeria remains steadfast in supporting initiatives that promote intra-African trade, technological innovation, and climate resilience in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other transformative frameworks initiated by the African Union.

“We commend the progress made across the continent in the areas of education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, while urging renewed collaboration to address persistent challenges such as conflict, poverty, and inequality. As the continent is committed to make significant progress in diverse areas, Nigeria calls for strengthened partnerships among African nations and the global community to amplify Africa’s voice on the international stage”, the release concluded.

Africa Day marks the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union.

Nigeria reaffirms its dedication to the principles of the AU’s Agenda 2063, advancing democracy, good governance, youth empowerment, and regional security. Again, the country supports initiatives promoting intra-African trade, technological innovation, and climate resilience.

Nigeria urges renewed collaboration to address persistent challenges such as conflict, poverty, and inequality, and calls for strengthened partnerships among African nations and the global community to amplify Africa’s voice on the international stage.
