The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has returned the sum of N6200 to a hearing-challenged candidate who sat for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) on Satyrday in Abuja.
According to the Board, the decision to return the registration fee was taken by the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, after it was observed that the candidate was challenged as he could neither speak nor hear.
The Board said Prof. Oloyede allowed the candidate to sit and write the examination while ordering that the registration fee be refunded.
The candidate is of the 1,985,642 candidates registered for this year’s JAMB at Total Child Computer and CBT Centre in Dutse, Abuja.
Following Prof. Oloyede’s order, the candidate got his registration fee back.
However, exam invigilators were astounded when the candidate concluded his examination within 45 minutes in the exam scheduled for two hours.
Meanwhile, JAMB maintained a successful record on its systems during the UTME examinations as no incidences of system failure were recorded.
Two CBT Centres visited – Total Child Computer CBT Centre and Ade -Ola International School- in Kubwa and Dutse areas of Bwari Area Council of Abuja witnessed seamless exercises.
Candidates were happy that they could write their examination with ease.
Some of the candidates spoken to advised JAMB to sustain whatever it did to ensure that its computers did not fail during the exams.
Some candidates who concluded ahead of time told our reporter that they prepared very well for the exam by reading and studying well.
On the issue of parents who often inteferred with the exams, our reporter observed that parents at the two CBT centers conducted themselves with the decorum as required of them by the Board.
Some.parents spoken to told our reporter that the pre-exam.warnung by JAMB and the Police may have had on impact on the parents as “no one wants problems these days”, a lady who was standing by in wait for her daughter, said.
