Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Friday, flagged off the final motor rally to Argungu as part of activities marking this year’s Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

The Governor charged drivers participating in the rally to avoid reckless driving and strictly observe all traffic rules and regulations throughout the competition.

He explained that the final motor rally, which commenced in Sokoto, will take participants through Shagari and onward to Jega, passing through Birnin Kebbi before finally terminating in Argungu town.

Governor Aliyu commended the organisers for choosing Made-in-Nigeria vehicles for the rally, noting that the initiative showcases Nigeria’s steady march towards technological advancement and national development.

He described the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival as a platform that promotes cultural heritage, peaceful coexistence, and unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Northern Nigeria.

“The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival promotes tourism and boosts the socio-economic well-being of the people of Kebbi State,” the Governor said.

Governor Aliyu also commended his Kebbi State counterpart, Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for his foresight in reviving the internationally renowned festival.

Earlier, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Balarabe Kadadi, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for ensuring the successful flag-off ceremony.

He also expressed gratitude to the Kebbi State Government for giving Sokoto State the opportunity to be part of the historic event.

Similarly, the leader of the motor rally organising team, Ibrahim Sulaiman Kukun, thanked Governor Aliyu for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to the team during their stay in Sokoto.

Motor rallies, traditional sports, and other cultural activities have long been integral parts of the annual Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.
