The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has recorded a major surge in student loan uptake in Ogun State following a sensitisation programme held at the Crownbirth Event Centre, Ijebu-Ife.
The event, facilitated by Otunba Femi Adewumi and hosted by the Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde (Hacco), significantly improved public awareness of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
The engagement brought together students, parents, community leaders and education stakeholders, offering clear guidance on how to access the loan designed to remove financial obstacles to higher education. Speaking at the forum, Otunba Adewumi said the initiative was aimed at ensuring no student is denied education due to financial hardship.
Following the sensitisation, NELFUND confirmed that institutions in Ogun State had collectively received over ₦785 million for the 2024/2025 academic session. Beneficiary institutions, including Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science & Technology, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, acknowledged the receipt of funds on behalf of thousands of students.
NELFUND Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, commended the collaboration with local leaders, noting that such partnerships demonstrate the impact possible when government and communities work together. He reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to expanding similar sensitization drives nationwide to ensure more students benefit from the scheme.
NELFUND expressed appreciation to Otunba Adewumi for his critical role in driving the successful outcomes recorded in Ogun State and assured that more outreach activities are planned across the country.
