The Abuja Archdiocesan Chaplain of the Catholic Women Organization (CWOAA), Rev. Fr Victor Makinwa Ogunyemi, has called on women to continue to effectively play the role of mothers in their various families and churches.
Rev. Fr. Ogunyemi made this statement at the celebration of World Union of Catholic Organizations (WUCWO) and Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria of the Archdiocese (CWOAA) which held atthe Christ the King Catholic Church Kubwa on Sunday.
He stressed the need for women to support the work of God through building stronger and united families.
“Women are the backbone of the family and their roles cannot be replaced by anybody. Their large army of numbers should be tools of change in the society. They should live with a sense of purpose,” he said.
The President of Christ the King Catholic Women Organization (CWO), who was also the Chief host of the celebration, Princess (Dr.) Joan Jummai Idonijie, also highlighted her commitment in promoting the spirituality, social and economic well being of Abuja women.
She had done this through vocational skills training and care of widows and the vulnerable.
Also, she called on women to redouble their efforts at coordinating grassroot development and promoting family unity.
The President, Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria, Abuja Archdiocese (CWOAA), Nneoma (Mrs.) Ebele Lilian Okoye, in her speech said CWOAA mothers have a lot of responsibilities to the family, church and society at large.
“No matter how the economy is biting, women should stand firm to their faith. That the country is hard should not allow us to lose focus; we should go back to the family,” she said.
The event climaxed with the presentation of awards of excellence in humanitarian service to deserving mothers.
Other categories of awards were Ruby Award, Pride of Mothers Award and Crown of Golden Mother Awards.
Winners of the awards were. distinguished women and men who were recognised for meaningful and significant service to humanity.
