Chidimma Uchegbu – Abuja.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa has said on Monday that WAEC and NECO examinations will be done via Computer – Base Test (CBT) .
The Minister made this pronouncement at the JAMB Headquarters when he went to monitor the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME) in Bwari, Abuja, stressing that since JAMB can conduct the examinations of about 2.2m people across the country and is hundred percent (100 %) Computer Base Test (CBT). WAEC and NECO that is done annually of about 1 .8m to 2m people can also do it equally.
“I know WAEC and NECO have other component in the examination. They have practical, objective and easy. Both Easy and Objective will be done via Computer Base Test ( CBT). That is why it was staggered, ” he said.
According to the Minister, by November this year 2025 examination will be done via Computer Base Test. ( CBT). And also by May / June of 2026 both Easy and Objective will be done via Computer Base Test ( CBT).
” The way JAMB is conducting its annual examinations meet all the international Benchmark which is so hard for candidate to cheat.
” The examinations is done, monitored and coordinated with the high level of integrity. He is very happy that it can be done in Nigeria. We have a good country.
In addition, the Minister praised our President who is working so hard. We have a strong rule of law in this country. Our President believed strongly in the rule of law. People are working around. Government and Civil Servants are doing their work. Politicians are doing their own business. No victimization.
Also , we are going to get WAEC and NECO by November this year via CBT. May/ June next year 2026 both objective and theory will be fully on CBT, that is how examination malpractices will be eliminated. We want our children to study and be perfectly out of cheating. When some students cheat during the examinations, it disfranchised the hard working once .
Lastly, the minister set up a committee which the JAMB Registrar was elected for monitoring of examinations quality which the result will be out by next month. They were tasked to decide from the examinations process that including the examinations will be at all levels of schools and come up with expansive recommendation on how we can maintain the high quality of examinations that meet any standard to compare anywhere in the world.
He is hopeful and awaiting those reports but ahead of getting the reports he has mandated both the WAEC and NECO to start implementing Computer Base Test examinations from November 2025.
