The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, received a Certificate of Occupancy for over 270 hectares of land from the Kaduna State Government for the establishment of University of Applied Sciences in the state.

The Minister received the documents from Governor Uba Sani during a courtesy call on him at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

He said that the journey towards the establishment of the university has happened so quickly under the leadership of Governor Sani

While commending the governor, Dr. Alausa made a commitment to admit the first set of students inti the university in the current academic year.

According to him, the Federal University of Applied Sciences will be offering courses in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Applied Sciences – Applied Mathematics, Computers, Artificial Intelligence and Machinery and Environmental Studies.

The Minister also promised to ensure that the university gets its TETFund allocation this year.

The governor, in his remarks, said his administration has reduced the total numbers of out of school children from 580,000 to 250,000 in the state.

In doing that, Senator Sani said free meals are given on a daily basis to over 56 boarding schools students to avoid dropout from school

He stated that education is the number one priority of his administration, emphasizing education is the only crucial thing that can be given to the children of both the rich and poor.

“Since I was elected as the executive governor of Kaduna State, we have reduced the numbers of out of school children. We had about 580,000 out of school children, but today, because of our efforts and support in the area of education, we have reduced the number to 250,000.

“To us in Kaduna State, education is a number one priority. I believe education at the basic level is the key. The primary and secondary schools are the most critical.

“Education is very important and is the only thing you can give to everyone, both the children of the rich and the poor, for them to have something in their lives.

“It’s still work in progress, we have over 56 boarding schools, and we give free three square meals to all our boarding school students so that we don’t experience any dropout of school. The school is free and everything is free. For over one year, we have built 25,000 classes and 62 secondary schools.

The governor promised to continuously partner with the Ministry of Education, especially in the aspect of accessing quality education in Kaduna State
