The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended law degree programmes in eight universities across the country.
It said the decision followed the decision of the Council for Legal Education to withdraw law programmes in the universities for the 202/2026 academic session.
The affected universities include government-owned and private.
A statement from JAMB gave the names of affected universities as Kwara State University, Bingham University in Nasarawa State, Redeemers University in Osun State, Western Delta University in Delta State and Taraba State University, Jalingo.
Others are Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State and Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
the statement tiled ‘Suspension of Law Programmes at Selected Universities,’ reads: “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will not be conducting admissions for the Law programme in some selected universities following the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) for the 2025/2026 academic session at the following universities:
“Please note that the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, will last for two academic sessions: specifically, the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions.
“As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enroll in the Law programme at the aforementioned universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. Furthermore, the ban on registration for the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend into the 2026/2027 academic session.”
