The National Examinations Council (NECO), has released the results of the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with 60.55 percent of candidates securing five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics.
NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made this known while briefing newsmen at the headquarters of the organisation in Minna, Niger State, Thursday.
Prof. Wushishi disclosed that a total of 1,376,423 candidates, representing 706,950 males and 669,473 females, registered for the exam.
Giving a breakdown of the results, Prof. Wushishi said the “Number of candidates that sat is 1,367,736 representing 702,112 Males and 665,624 females.
“Number of candidates with five Credits and above, including English and Mathematics is 828,284, representing 60.55%.
“Number of candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics is 1,147,597, representing 83.90%”
On the number of examination malpractice, Wushishi said this year’s figure witnessed a great reduction when compared to last year.
He said: “Number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437 as against 12,030 in 2023, which shows a reduction of 30. 1%.”
The registrar, however, revealed that 40 schools were found to be involved in mass cheating during the examination.
“During the conduct of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), 40 schools were found to have been involved in whole school (mass) cheating in 17 states. They will be invited to the Council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied. One school in Ekiti was recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and 01 Science subject.
“Similarly, 21 Supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness and negligence, in 12 states.”
He urged candidates that sat for the examination to visit NECO website to access their results.
“At this juncture, I wish to formally declare that the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal are hereby released to the public. By this release, candidates can now access their results on NECO website (www.neco.gov.ng) using their examination registration number,” Wushishi said.

I stand before you today with a heart filled with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment as we gather to celebrate the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results. This moment marks a significant milestone in the journey of our students and the education sector at large. It is my honor therefore to welcome you all to this briefing, on behalf of the Management and Staff of National Examinations Council (NECO).
First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unwavering support and the opportunity to serve in this esteemed position. Your commitment to education and the development of our youth has been a driving force behind our collective efforts to ensure quality education for all.
I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman OON, SAN, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Honourable Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, as well as the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, for their constant support and invaluable advice throughout this process. Your guidance has been instrumental in shaping our policies and initiatives for the betterment of our education system.
I would also like to acknowledge the Chairman Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary), Senator Lawal Adamu Usman and other members, Chairman House Committee on Basic Education Examination Bodies, Honourable Oboku A. Oforji, and members, as well as the Chairman House Committee on Basic Education and Services, Honourable Mark Bako Useni and other members for their unwavering support. Your collaboration has been vital in overcoming challenges and achieving our shared goals in education.
Our sincere gratitude and appreciation also goes to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Gombe State Ministry of Education and Yobe State Ministry of Education for their great support in the area of logistics. I also want to specially thank the Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and those of the Department of State Services (DSS) for their assistance in ensuring that we conduct a hitch-free examination devoid of any major incident. We thank you for your commendations and positive feedback. Your vigilance and professionalism have been crucial in enabling the Council to successfully discharge its mandate.
To the dedicated journalists who have worked tirelessly to report on our progress and initiatives, I extend our gratitude for your collaboration and commitment to highlighting the importance of education in our Society.

In conclusion, I congratulate all the students who have worked hard to achieve success in the 2024 SSCE (Internal) examinations. Your dedication and perseverance have paid off, and I have no doubt that you will continue to excel in your future endeavors.
The 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) was conducted from Wednesday 19 June to Friday 26 July, 2024, while the Marking Exercise took place from Monday 19″ August to Sunday 8h September, 2024. Today makes it 55 days after the last written paper, which signifies that all the processes leading to the successful release of the 2024 SSCE Internal results have been concluded.
Distinguished guests, gentlemen of the Press, my dear colleagues, may I crave your indulgence to permit me to release the highlights of the results, as follows:
a) Number of candidates registered for the examination is 1,376,423, representing 706,950 males and 669,473 Females.
b) Number of candidates that sat is 1,367,736 representing 702,112 Males and 665,624 females.
c) Number of candidates with five Credits and above, including English and Mathematics is 828,284, representing 60.55%%.
d) Number of candidates with five Credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics is 1,147,597, representing 83.90%.
e) Number of candidates with special needs is 2,267 with the breakdown as follows:
(i) 1,104 candidates with hearing impairment
(ii) 348 candidates with visual impairment
(iii) 342 candidates with Albinism
(iv) 237 candidates with Autism
(V) 236 candidates with low vision
